After the attacks in Paris the hashtag #PrayForParis was trending immediately and rightly so. It should, those families and friends who lost loved ones need the comfort that can only come from the heart of God. It is hard enough to lose a loved one. Losing a loved one unexpectedly and too soon is especially awful.
One thing I have not heard sadly, is this. Where is #PrayForISIS? While there, in my opinion needs to be a military response from our governments to the terrorists, we as followers of Christ need to pray for them. Jesus gives us this completely radical teaching in Matthew 5:44 (ESV) where He says, “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,”
We need to #PrayForISIS. A generation of angry young men who want a purpose for their lives has risen up and filled the ranks of ISIS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram and other terrorists organizations. These are young men, that are created in the image of God and have a calling and a destiny, they have gifts, they have family and friends, they have purpose, and unfortunately it is being wasted on sinful, racist, hate-filled, wicked actions.
As stated earlier, I support military action against groups like these, (that is another blog to explain how these two ideas do not conflict) but we followers of Christ need to pray for them. Pray that Jesus would reveal Himself to them. Pray that they will have a radical encounter with Christ and that He would transform their hearts. As we have seen since 9/11, Western ideologies of democracy are not going to fix the problems that have existed for generations in the Middle East, but Christ has, and Christ will. Join me and lets #PrayForISIS
