Emotion & Compassion

This weekend we had the privilege of having Christine Caine speak at NCC. She is from Hillsong Church in Sydney, Australia. I really enjoyed her message and she made a distinction that I really liked.

Many times as humans, it is easy for us to be touched emotionally about something, but not really ever do anything about it. We see a documentary, hear a story, we may even cry, but it doesn’t mean we have compassion. Compassion comes when we actually do something about the very thing that God has pricked our heart for.

I love that distinction. Very subtle, but very important. Emotion without compassion never changes anything.

Compassion on the other hand changes things, whether or not you express it emotionally.
