One of the deceiving things about leadership is that it always looks more glamorous than it is. I used to think, “I wish I could be making decisions in those meetings or those leaders have it so easy, everybody loves them and they’re lives are so good. They are in charge and can just make people do things.” Hopefully, the leadership fog will begin to dissipate.
Now I understand why Paul said in 1 Timothy 3:1, “Here is a trustworthy saying: If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.” I think he says this because leadership is hard and it always looks better when your not in it. I think in every tough situation I’ve ever been in, or observed from the outside, you never really understand that role or person until you have actually been in their shoes, not watched them in their shoes, but actually been in them.
God constantly reminds me to be graceful and merciful and not to judge other leaders because I really don’t understand their perspective because I am not in their shoes. So next time you want to criticize your president, pastor, or boss, pray for them instead.
